Eric Varley, DO

Spine Surgeon

Dr. Eric Varley, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon specializing in cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine deformities for both pediatric and adult patients. Dr. Varley has comprehensive training in minimally invasive spine surgery, traditional reconstructive techniques and surgical revision procedures.

His dedication to advancing spine care is reflected in more than 15 peer-reviewed journal articles, dozens of presentations at national & international meetings, and multiple book chapters. Participating in research, education and global outreach programs is a fundamental part of how Dr. Varley continues to be a leader in his field.

He is profoundly grateful to have trained with some of the best surgeons in the world through his NIH training award in spinal deformity research as well as serving on multiple mission trips to Africa and South America. Dr. Varley’s philosophy is to be of service to each patient as an individual and define the treatment goals that bring meaning to that person’s life. Understanding these goals together guides treatment focused on non-operative management with surgical treatment reserved for patients who truly need it. Dr. Varley looks forward to bringing a compassionate, evidence-based approach to all patients he has the privilege to care for.

Eric and his family recently relocated to Idaho after completing his residency training in the Midwest. Eric grew up spending every summer on his family farm in Michigan and loves being outdoors. This love brought him to Boise where he enjoys trail running, mountain biking, kayaking, and backcountry backpacking & skiing. Dr. Varley appreciates learning new things and is an avid reader as well as traveler. He shares this passion for adventure with his wife and two children. When not enjoying time outside with his family, he has a deep personal commitment to global spine outreach and lectures nationally and internationally on spine care.
